“Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are.” — Anthelme Brillat-Savarin
Lately, I have been reading a lot of evidence that health, happiness, and prosperity can be directly connected to your gut health.
This has lead me to add a few new habits to my eating protocol:
Chew your food 20 times
I just found out that your saliva is a great source of digestive enzymes! When you chew your food well, it provides more surface volume for the enzymes to kickstart the digestion process. What a wonderful assistant for your precious stomach!
Listen to mindful music
Did you know that Spotify has Mindful Eating playlists? Set the tone for an enjoyable meal where you can focus on the chewing process. I also like to wait 5 seconds before I put the next bite into my mouth, which took me a while to settle into the slower pace. Don’t forget to set a nice table setting and try beautiful cloth napkins!
Lightly cook your food for better digestion
Through the guidance of my Ayurvedic practitioner, I have learned that when we apply the element of fire to our food, it begins the process of metabolic breakdown making it easier for my body digest and absorb. However, microwave cooking doesn’t count!
Consider supporting your digestion system with “tools”
Compromised digestive function can result in energy deficiencies, lowered immunity, weight gain, and gastrointestinal discomfort. You can support your digestive system by eating a healthy diet high in fiber, and by drinking plenty of water. Taking a good probiotic (such as PB Assist®+) can also be helpful.
I am always looking for more tips to improve my digestion. Please suggest below!
