Are You Wealthy? (It’s More Than Just Money)

When you hear the word wealth, what comes to mind? Stacks of cash? Fancy cars? A dream vacation?

Or does it feel like something that’s just out of reach? Something for other people—but not for you?

Here’s the thing: Wealth isn’t just about having lots of money. It’s about how you manage the money you have—and how you set yourself up to receive more.

For me, wealth includes three key things:

  1. Income

  2. Expenses

  3. Net Worth

But before I learned that, I made a lot of mistakes. And I’m sharing my story because I know I’m not the only one who’s felt lost and overwhelmed when it comes to money.

My Money Story: From Debt to Peace

Looking back, I graduated high school with zero money management skills. I didn’t know the value of a dollar. I didn’t understand budgeting. I definitely didn’t know how to save.

As soon as I could, I opened multiple credit cards and spent way too much on clothes and things I thought I needed. It didn’t take long to find myself buried in debt—and without a single cent saved.

For about 10 years, I felt like I was spinning in circles—chasing money, trying to make ends meet, and feeling constantly stressed about my finances.

It wasn’t until I became a single mom of four kids that I had to face reality. With a limited income, I finally realized I couldn’t just wish my way out of money problems. I had to change my mindset and my habits.

How I Shifted My Mindset and Found Peace

The first step? Getting honest with myself. I started tracking my income and expenses—actually looking at where my money was going.

Next, I began making better choices—spending less, saving more, and making it a habit to pat myself on the back every time I made a wise financial decision.

And here’s the unexpected part: Once I started managing my money differently, I felt peaceful for the first time. I wasn’t constantly worried about not having enough. Instead, I felt in control.

The Mindset of Abundant Wealth

When I think of wealth now, it’s not just about a big bank account. It’s about having the freedom to make choices without fear. It’s about building security for myself and my family.

And when you pair wealth with abundance, you’re talking about something even greater:

An endless flow of money and resources, drawn to you because you’re open to receiving them.

That’s the mindset you need to develop to achieve abundant wealth: Be willing to receive. Be open to noticing opportunities. The cool thing is, when you start actively looking for ways to receive, you start noticing them!

Steps to Start Building Abundant Wealth

  1. Know Your Numbers

    • Track your income, expenses, and net worth. Understanding your baseline is crucial.

  2. Change Your Spending Habits

    • Make intentional choices and give yourself credit for positive changes.

  3. Focus on Receiving

    • Instead of worrying about lack, focus on the ways money can flow to you—through work, opportunities, gifts, and creativity.

  4. Celebrate Progress

    • Even small wins matter. Every time you make a good choice, acknowledge it.
